Every year, Just Helping’s Christmas Tree Collection grows. Not just in scale, but in its positive environmental footprint. We’re committed to making the appeal as green as possible, and 2025 marked another important step forward on our environmental campaign.
Greener Collections with Electric Vehicles
We were especially excited to partner once again with Biffa, who provided a fleet of electric vehicles to support the Manchester collection. Their commitment to sustainability helped us reduce emissions across the city and inspired more collections to go electric across the UK.
This year, 35 vans used in the appeal were electric, up from last year, marking the second consecutive year of growth in EV participation. We’re incredibly grateful to Biffa and other eco-conscious partners and charities who continue to champion greener logistics.
We’re not stopping here. We'll keep increasing the percentage of electric vehicles involved in the appeal and continue pushing for cleaner, more sustainable collections nationwide.

All the real Christmas trees we collect are 100% recycled - either chipped for use in local parks and gardens, converted into biomass, or used in controlled erosion projects.
Why does this matter? A standard 2-metre real Christmas tree, if sent to landfill, releases around 16kg of CO₂e due to methane emissions - 25x more potent than carbon dioxide. By chipping and recycling, we can reduce that impact by up to 80% (to just 3.5kg CO₂e per tree).
Thanks to your donations and support, we’ve saved over 1.1 million kg of CO₂e from landfill this year alone.
