Our Positive Environmental Impact

Not only does the Christmas Tree Collection provide an event for the community to come together and volunteer their time raising vital funds for local causes, but it also has an enormously positive environmental impact.

A 2-metre real Christmas tree, with no roots, has a carbon footprint of 16kg CO2e if it ends up in landfill. This is because the tree decomposes, producing methane gas which is 25 times more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. If you have it chipped to spread in public parks and gardens it will significantly reduce the carbon footprint by up to 80% (around 3.5kg CO2e).

By chipping all our donated trees, more than 1 million kg of CO2e may be saved from landfill!

For more information on the benefits of tree recycling read Jocelyn Timperley’s informative article The overlooked benefits of real Christmas trees - BBC Future or head to www.carbontrust.com.
