This New Year, Volunteer

The festivities and celebrations are officially over and whilst it’s true that Christmas really is the season of giving, it doesn’t mean it should stop there. Support and cheer can be spread all year round and charities don’t just close their doors after Christmas.

If your new year’s resolution was to help those around you then one way you can do this is by volunteering. Volunteering is incredibly important, and essential to helping charities run. There are many different ways you can volunteer, and it’s important that you find the right volunteering opportunity that best suits you.

If you’re unsure where to start, why not try this Volunteer Personality Quiz? Simply use the results to figure out which volunteering community is best for you and then move forward from there.

If you’re ready and raring to go and to kickstart your new year’s resolution to give back to the community then read below for some of the different ways you can get started.

  1. Check Volunteer Portals Online

There are many different websites where you can find volunteering opportunities near you. On websites like Charity Job or Do-It all you have to do is enter your postcode to find the nearest and accessibly volunteering opportunities to you.

  1. Talk to Your Employer

Many organisations support employee volunteering and it’s something you may not currently be aware of. Talk to your HR department and see if there is anything happening that you can get involved with. If not, why not get creative and come up with something yourself? You could even get your colleagues involved.

  1. Talk to your Colleagues

On the note of colleagues, why not talk to them too? You never know what volunteering someone may be taking part in after work that they’ve never mentioned to you before or broadcast before. Not only will this help you get involved in some fantastic causes, it might also bring you and your colleagues closer and form a better working relationship.
