International Volunteers Day: A Chance to Say Thank You
Every year on the 5th December, we don’t just countdown for our Christmas Tree Collection, we also celebrate International Volunteers Day.
Mandated by the United Nations General Assembly, this day is a chance for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts, share their values and promote their work among their communities. And we want to say a big thank you to our very own volunteers.
Our charity’s vision is to promote community engagement through volunteering, to inspire people, businesses, charities and other organisations to contribute and volunteer in their local communities, raising money for hospices and other local charities through fun, community events such as our annual Christmas tree collection.
Our Trustees
Our charity is governed by the Trustees, who selflessly volunteer their time to help direct the work of the charity. As well as a Charity Manager, Development Manager and a small admin team, we also have volunteers who are an essential force behind the work we do all year round. Without these wonderful people, our charity would not be able to run and our fun-filled community events like our Christmas Tree Collection would not go ahead.
Our Christmas Tree Collection
However, it isn’t just our team of trustees who volunteer to help us, each year, up and down the county, many people take the phrase ‘season of giving’ so literally that they dedicate their time to helping our Christmas Tree Collection, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
These volunteers battle the wind, rain and snow or the cold January weather, working hard to collect old Christmas trees from across the country to raise money for local hospices and charities. Not only do they offer their time, but many of these volunteers also provide vans to transport the Christmas trees, or organise places for them to be recycled like on farms. The success of our collections is down to each and every one of the amazing volunteers who give up their time to help.
Our Hospices
As we say, our collections are to raise money for local hospices up and down the country. Within each of these hospices, are a great team of volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to the people who need it most. Although they might not work for us directly, we cannot thank these volunteers enough for everything they do for the hospices we raise money for.
So, whether you’re a volunteer at a hospice involved in our Christmas tree collection, you’ve volunteered to help our team organise the collections or you’re physically collecting and recycling the trees yourself – we want to say a great big THANK YOU!
